The U13 Footballers of An Riocht found Clonduff that bit too strong losing 3-12 to 1-3 though there were only four points between the teams at the break and An Riocht had not taken full advantage of some good possession in the Clonduff half.
In the Basketball NI Premier League the Knights returned to Belfast after their opening day success over Belfast Star, this time to face Queens but found the students in good form losing on a 77 to 61 score. It will be good to get a first home fixture on Saturday against Derry’s North Star with tip-off at 6pm at Dunavil, admission is free so come along for a great night’s entertainment.
At the U21 Football, Downpatrick v An Riocht on Sunday, we were well beaten 3-17 to 1-4, at Pairc Tomas Ruiseil. Deaglan Morgan opened the scoring from a free and though Jack Rafferty added a well taken point from distance, too many other chances came to nothing while having gifted Downpatrick an opening goal we then conceded another soon after from a soft penalty and despite Conor Clarke adding our third point at the end of the half, we trailed 2-8 to 0-3 at the break.
Paddy McComiskey and Conor Clarke combined well for Michael O’Rourke to fire home a goal on the restart but too slow a build-up meant further chances were slow coming and we only had another Deaglan Morgan free to show for a lot of possession.
Team: S Doran, M Rooney, J O’Rourke, S McDowell, C Clarke, L Rodgers, D Matthews, K Colgan, D Morgan, R Spiers, D Campbell, J Sands, N McComiskey, M O’Rourke, J Rafferty.
Subs: J Walker, P McComiskey, P Kearney, C Morgan.
An Riocht Subway Player of the Match: Stephen Doran.
In the U18 Camogie Shield Semi-final match between An Riocht and Ballygalget, An Riocht got off to a fantastic start with a well taken goal within the first two minutes of play from Ciarrai Connor. Ballygalget responded instantly with a number of good scores, however An Riocht were still within touching distance come half time.
An Riocht had solid performances from Caoimhe McAlinden, Sophie Bowater and Aoife McDowell but the strong Ballygalget team edged away in the last ten minutes with a comfortable 4-17 to 2-9 win bringing them to the Shield Final against Bredagh.
