The Jim Mulholland Cup, Shield & Plate 11-a-side P5/P6 Football Tournament took place at Dunavil on Saturday. 45 teams from 9 counties played 132 games before Bellaghy retained the Cup, St Brigids Belfast (with An Riocht’s Colm McGurk in charge) beat Buncrana in the Shield and Keady beat An Riocht in the Pate Final. Thanks to all the teams for their co-operation at the tournament; also thanks to the An Riocht volunteers who manned the car parks, kept the road clear, staffed the kitchen, took over 200 photographs, who refereed on the nine pitches and who gathered scores and co-ordinated the games, not forgetting everyone who helped with the tidy-up.

At The Jim Mulholland Tournament on Saturday, An Riocht had two teams in action and enjoyed matches with Shane O’Neills (Armagh), Clann Eireann (Armagh), St Johns (Belfast), Bryansford, Carrickcruppen (Armagh), Bellaghy Wolfe Tones (Derry), Fintona Pearses (Tyrone), Buncrana (Donegal), Skyrne (Meath) and Keady Dwyers (Armagh) reaching the Plate Final.

The Senior Camogie An Riocht v Castlewellan finished a draw 0-9 to 2-3 at Dunavil. An Riocht had ample chances to win comfortably but were misfiring in attack and each time we got in front the visitors replied with a goal leaving us needing the last two scores to share the spoils. Team J Sloan, Clara Killen, L Rodgers, N Cunningham, N Kelly, N Fearon, M Trainor, O McAlinden, A Fearon 0-3 (2f), M Higgins 0-1, C Fearon 0-1, T Rooney 0-1, A McDowell 0-2, Carrie Killen 0-1, T Donnan. Subs: S Bowater, P Matthews.

The U18 Football match An Riocht v Clann Na Banna produced another goal glut with Bann edging it 9-3 to 4-16, that’s 54 goals served up in 4 matches! An Riocht dominated the first half and should have been much more than 2-10 to 0-2 ahead at half time. Three black cards in the third quarter and no reserves to replace them eventually cost us the match with Bann outscoring us 5-0 to 1-1 in the final ten minutes. Team: P Kearney 1-0 (pen), T Murnion, JJ Eakins, P Curran, R Campbell 1-3 (2f), Cormac Clarke 0-1, Conor Clarke 0-3, C Flanagan 1-3, J Cunningham, C Campbell 0-2, D Nugent 0-1, P McComiskey, J Rodgers 1-3.
