Underage Football Tournaments

An Riocht have announced details of their Underage Gaelic Football Tournaments for 2016:

The Paul Farrell Cup & Shield U14 Football 7-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 7th May; KILCOO Cup holders, LONGSTONE Shield holders.

The Brian O'Hare Cup & Shield U12 Football 9-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 21st May; BURREN Cup holders, SHANE O’NEILLS Shield holders.

The Jim Mulholland Cup & Shield U10 Football 11-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 4th June; O’DONOVAN ROSSA MAGHERAFELT Cup holders, SHANE O’NEILLS Shield holders.

The Adrian McAlinden Cup & Shield U8 Football 11-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 18th June; BELLAGHY WOLFHOUNDS Cup holders, CULLOVILLE BLUES Shield holders.

Each day the first games throw in at 10.30am, the knock out stages begin at 1.30pm with the Shield Final at 3pm and the Cup Final at 3.15pm. These tournaments are sanctioned by Croke Park. The emphasis each day will be on playing against new teams, making new friends and enjoying the occasion. Teas and hot food etc will be available from our newly refurbished kitchen.

Last year 51 Clubs from 11 different Counties took part and already just hours after preliminary notification went out there are entries in from seven different counties.

  • ·        To play Adult Football in 2016 a player must be at least second year minor
  • ·        A player on an inter County Minor panel shall not play in adult club league or challenge games until his inter County activity for the year is concluded
  • ·        To manage an adult team in 2016 you must have a Level One qualification
  • ·        To manage underage in 2017 you must have Level One qualification

·                 Upcoming courses @ Dunavil:

·                 Foundation Award on Saturday 9th January, any coaches without Foundation need to complete this course and must register with the Club or with Coaching Officer Seamus Curran asap, still a few places remaining. If you are not sure you probably haven’t done it.

·                 Coaching for U14 & U16 coaches on 18th & 25th Jan & 1st February

·                 Level One Child Award on 5th, 6th, 7th February.

·                 Because of the Foundation course on 9th January, the P1 to P4 coaching will start back a week late, on 16th January.


·        The next Football meetingis at 7.15pm on Tuesday 12th January; if interested in coaching or helping in any way with football in the Club please attend.




This outdoor Coaches CPD workshop will take place in Burren on Tuesday 10th February at 7.30pm.This workshop will explore practical, on-field methods of creating effective systems of attacking play in Gaelic Football teams.This workshop is open to all Football coaches and is free of charge.

Youth Foundation Football Coaching Award Friday 21stNovember (3 hour Child Protection) & Saturday 22ndNovember (6 hour coaching) @ Dunavil (must complete both to become qualified); everyone interested should contact Club Coaching Officer Seamus Curran asap as places are limited. 


This is essential for anyone without a Foundation Award and those who completed it a long time ago could use it as a refresher.

The Senior Football v Aghaderg did not take place as the visitors were unable to field a team on any of the three dates suggested.

On Wednesday 1st June at 8pm An Riocht will launch our ‘Camogie Academy’ for primary school girls.

An Riocht Planning & Physical Development committee will meet at 11am on Saturday coming, 28th May, at Dunavil. This committee should organize all necessary business to complete development projects – filling in applications, liaising with professionals, etc. Development is more than about developing Club facilities. It is about developing the Club as a unit in terms of administration and activity. The committee should seek ways to improve the general organisation, structure and efficiency of the Club and ways to improve the facilities in the Club. It should ensure that the Club is availing of all administration resources and education programmes provided by the GAA for the Club and also manage long and short term grounds & buildings maintenance and repair work, risk management, accident control, keep records, and includes ‘Safety Officer’ position.

If you think you may have something to offer in any of these areas of Club life then please come along on Saturday for one hour, especially if you are not volunteering in any other capacity at present. If you are interested but unavailable at 11am on Saturday, then please let us know in advance.
