An Riocht Master Footballers - Past News 2012

An Riocht hosted the Joe Donnan memorial tournament

An Riocht hosted the Joe Donnan memorial tournament on Saturday at Dunavil. The sun was shining and the football on display was of a very high standard. An Riocht won the cup beating Warrenpoint in the final. In goals Conor ‘Bru’ Sloan proved hard to beat and indeed chipped in with a few scores himself, Martin and Eamon O'Rourke, and Mike and Paul Quinn controlled the pace of each game, keeping the ball and then breaking at speed (or a fast walk) as it looked from the sidelines.

Jim Clarke, John  Lavery and Pete Morgan all pulled the strings around the middle and took some great scores from distance. Gary Cunningham and Joe (Christy Brown) Baldwin were a handfull all day as they rolled back the clock with their movement and score taking. Well done lads, also a mention to manager Sean Clarke who now has guided the team to two trophies in two weeks.

An Riocht ‘A’ were beaten in the cup semi final by An Riocht. Throughout the day they played great football Declan ‘soupy’ Campbell playing as a fly keeper was all over the pitch, John Donnelly, Paddy Carvill and Brendan ‘Bisto’ Sloan were always in control at the back and all three got on the score board. Declan Austin ,Stephen Flanangan and Dan Flynn proved a handfull for most teams as they were all over the pitch setting up attacks. Shay Sloan, James Clarke and Raymond Sloan got the scores to take the lads to the cup semi final. James ‘butcher’ Cunningham showed age doesn't matter and Eamon Campbell played and scored which made it worthwhile flying him home .

Also it was good to see Ryan Rooney playing football again after so long away, hope he got the bug again. If they had faced anyone other than An Riocht ‘A’, it could of been an all An Riocht final. Thanks to Jim Allen manger of this fine bunch.

Thanks to all the teams, referees and all who worked making food , in the bar or helped in anyway
