An Riocht sixth annual Social Sevens

An Riocht sixth annual Social Sevens will be held this year on Saturday 1st  August from 1pm to 5pm. Social Sevens is for adults who do not play competitively and has replaced Masters in prolonging involvement in the national games with the one obvious difference that there is no lower age limit.

More than likely these players will be over 35 years but basically anyone who wants to play for a bit of fun or to keep fit can participate; the feedback from players is that they like the opportunity to meet up with former teammates and opponents.

Social Sevens is also a great opportunity to keep in touch with Gaelic Games at a friendly, social level and is an effective way for past players to become reacquainted with their Clubs and as a result perhaps get involved in coaching underage teams.

Entry fee £50 per team (£5 per player). Running alongside the JG Donnan Social Football Tournament will be the Carmel Doran Social Camogie Tournament which is run on the same principle as the Football. To take part contact An Riocht at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   All players are advised that if they get injured they are not covered by the GAA player insurance policy and should have their own personal cover.

An Riocht share trophy with St John's

An Riocht Social team took part in Aughlisnafin Sevens on Saturday. The lads were grouped along with Aughlisnafin and St Johns, winning both games to progress to the cup semi final. This game pitched us against Dromara and the lads ran out comfortable winners to reach the final. In the final we played St Johns again who proved a tough nut to crack as it finished a draw, extra time still could not split the teams so a penalty shoot-out was the only option. After ten spot kicks each the sides were still level.

The wise decision to share the trophy was made as none of these two teams deserved to lose on the day.

Well done St Johns on only their second tournament. An Riocht Social team have entered three tournaments this year , winning two out right and joint winners of one. Well done to all the players on the panel.

Saturdays team was Eoin Caughey, John Donnelly, Paul Quinn, Peter Morgan, John Lavery, Mike Quinn, Jim Clarke, Eamon O'Rourke and Joe Baldwin.
