An Riocht Minor Footballers - Past News 2013

U18 Footballers v Burren

The U18 Footballers were the only team to have game time over the past week.

Burren, the Division Two winners, were visitors to Dunavil and An Riocht really put it up to them in the first half.

The sides were level twice in the first ten minutes, Darragh Campbell with a brace from play for An Riocht. An Riocht were working the corners very well, there was urgency, direction and determination about their play and once Michael O’Rourke put An Riocht ahead from a tight angle they went on to add four more unanswered first half points; O’Rourke brought his tally to 0-3 and Ryan Spiers and John Sands chipped in with points apiece. Disciplined defending was the platform for An Riocht’s success, exemplified by Liam Rodgers timely interception midway through the half when Burren attacked with a man over.

It all went wrong after the break for the home team, they lost their concentration and with it their discipline. Burren got off to a flying restart and the first of their three goals helped bring them level by the thirty fifth minute.

O’Rourke replied for An Riocht but a second Burren goal in the forty fifth minute put the home side on the back foot.
O’Rourke who was a lone threat in the second half pointed from play and from placed ball to leave it 0-10 to 2-5 with ten minutes remaining.

It was still there to be won but Burren were now the better team and crashed in a third goal before quickly adding two frees to open a winning gap.

Ryan Spiers brought proceedings to a close with a point his overall play deserved to leave it 0-11 to 3-7 at the finish.
