An Riocht Minor Footballers - Past News 2014

U18 Football, Liatroim attended Dunavil in a league decider

In U18 Football, Liatroim attended Dunavil in a league decider and left with a comfortable 4-10 to 2-7 victory. This was a strangely subdued affair given the prize on offer to both teams. An Riocht were wasteful in the early stages with some wayward passing and Liatroim led from frees.

An Riocht suffered a setback in the fifth minute when keeper Stephen Doran was black carded but Thomas Sloan replaced him and saved the resultant penalty diving low to his right to turn the spot kick away for a fifty.

An Riocht were continually caught out by Liatroim’s quick kick outs and the visitors were happiest building from the back as Kory Colgan was dominating in the air around midfield.

After some good defensive play from Andrew and Michael Harper, An Riocht eventually got on the front foot and Conor Clarke fired in a lead goal off the post. Having built a narrow advantage, An Riocht gave it away conceding two goals in as many minutes just before the break to trail 2-4 to 1-3 at half time.

An Riocht shunned chances to reply on the restart and conceded two flick on goals in the thirty sixth minute to leave themselves too much to do. A now confident Liatroim added several points before Ronan White blasted home a second An Riocht goal and points from Deaglan Morgan and Michael O’Rourke left eight between the teams with a quarter hour to play. A final quarter exchange of scores did nothing for the deficit and Liatroim ran out clear winners by the finish.

Scorers: R White 1-1, C Clarke 1-0, D Morgan 0-2 (1f), M O’Rourke 0-2 (1f), A Sloan 0-1, M Rooney 0-1
