The Reserve footballers lost a high scoring affair, 2-14 to 3-16, to visiting Clonduff. Played in brilliant sunshine both teams served up an open match full of attacking prowess non more ably illustrated than by Aidan McVeigh who operated in a poachers role at the edge of the square while the pace of Ryan White time and again unhinged the yellows defence, Anthony Rogers too was a thorn in the visitors side picking up some great positions to link the An Riocht play back to front.
The Senior Reserves faced another stern test against a youthful and physical Clonduff side in a windy Hiltown on Sunday afternoon. Having suffered 2 heavy defeats last week, An Riocht were hoping to break the duct. Playing with the wind in the first half, Clonduff took the lead through Kevin Parr’s long range effort but Paddy Cole’s driven point seemed to suggest An Riocht weren’t going to roll over. Eventually the wind became an increasing factor in Clonduff’s dominance with Bernard Branagan and Shane Ward lofting over points, before Patrick McGreavey fired past Brendan Allen in the An Riocht net for the games first goal.

An Riocht Senior Reseves took on Kilcoo at Dunavil on a Sun Soaked Sunday afternoon. An Riocht fielded a very youthful team and too their credit they impressed, Ryan Speirs and Mark Higgins made their Seconds debut and didn’t look out of place and Ryan White continued his good form he’s been showing as of late.
We would like to wish Paddy Cordell a speedy recovery on the injury he picked up, we hope to see him back soon.
An Riocht Senior Reserves travelled to Kilcoo on Sunday, looking to pick up their first points of the new league season, and as expected Kilcoo were far to string for a young An Riocht side. Dáithí O’Hanlon, Nathan Smyth, Gary McEvoy, Patrick Devlin and a freak goal from Oliver McClean, which looped over a hapless Brendan Allen, put Kilcoo in a commanding position early on, and they didn’t stop there. Martin Devlin(3), Gary McEvoy, Shea O’Hanlon, Dominic McEvoy and Martin Grant all got in on the act before a Conor Cole Free-Kick and Kieran McVeigh from play registered An Riocht first scores of the half, just before Martin Devlin added another goal and a point to his and Kilcoos tally ended the first half.
An Riocht Senior Reserves travelled to Rostrevor on Sunday afternoon. An Riocht ended the first half six points down with scores from Conor Cole (2), Shane Sloan and the returning Ryan Donnelley.
An Riocht rallied round after the break and their play wasn’t getting finished in the manor which it deserved. As An Riocht surged forward, they left themselves exposed allowing Rostrevor to take their goal chances and put the game out of their reach.
Final Score An Riocht 0-8 Rostrevor 4-16
* On Sunday morning the Premier Reserve Football Leagues new season kicked off, and first up for An Riocht was local rivals Rostrevor at Dunavil. A Paddy Cole free-kick in the first minute was as good as it got for the home team as Rostrevor dominated from start to finish, Joe Fegan, Conor Doyle & Richie Reynolds pointed, and a great block from Paul Sherry denied Rostrevor a goal 5 minutes in. An Riocht seen plenty of the ball but passes not finding their targets enabled Rostrevor to break at pace.
