Seconds lose to Kilcoo

An Riocht Senior Reserves travelled to Kilcoo on Sunday, looking to pick up their first points of the new league season, and as expected Kilcoo were far to string for a young An Riocht side. Dáithí O’Hanlon, Nathan Smyth, Gary McEvoy, Patrick Devlin and a freak goal from Oliver McClean, which looped over a hapless Brendan Allen, put Kilcoo in a commanding position early on, and they didn’t stop there. Martin Devlin(3), Gary McEvoy, Shea O’Hanlon, Dominic McEvoy and Martin Grant all got in on the act before a Conor Cole Free-Kick and Kieran McVeigh from play registered An Riocht first scores of the half, just before Martin Devlin added another goal and a point to his and Kilcoos tally ended the first half.

Kilcoo started the second half in control, you the in-form Martin Devlin added another point straight from the retart, before good work between Cillian Laverty & Gary McEvoy resulted in Devlin rippling the net once more, before adding another two point’s as-well. An Riocht were unable to cope with the pace of Kilcoo on the break and almost conceded another goal as Martin Devlins shot looked to have beaten everyone but for the athleticism of Paddy Gartland to divert the ball out for a fifty. Conor Cole got another for An Riocht before Cillian Laverty pointed and from the resulting Kick out Kilcoo won the ball in midfield and broke at pace again, and got their third goal from Gary McEvoy.

Paddy Cordell, Darren White and Conor Cole added points again for An Riocht, Gary McEvoy added two points in as many minutes as Kilcoo sliced through the An Riocht defence like a hot knife through butter. From that kick out, Darren White made a great catch in the middle of the field before launching a high ball right into the Kilcoo box, where An Riocht’s ‘Fox in the Box’ Joe McCartan netted after putting good pressure on Kilcoo goalkeeper Ciaran McEvoy.

Conor Cole got An Riochts last score of the game before two more from the unmarkable Martin Devlin brough the game to a close. An Riocht tried hard against very strong opposition but just could keep posisition in the tackle. They had strong performances from Michael Clake, Sean McArdle and Aidan O’Hanlon in defence, Darren White gave  fielding exhibition in midfield and Conor Cole took his points well, while up front, Aidan McVeigh fought for every ball but his efforts were invain as Kilcoo defended well.

An Riocht Team:
