Reserves: Clonduff 4-11 An Riocht 3-5

The Senior Reserves faced another stern test against a youthful and physical Clonduff side in a windy Hiltown on Sunday afternoon. Having suffered 2 heavy defeats last week, An Riocht were hoping to break the duct. Playing with the wind in the first half, Clonduff took the  lead through Kevin Parr’s long range effort but Paddy Cole’s driven point seemed to suggest An Riocht weren’t going to roll over. Eventually the wind became an increasing factor in Clonduff’s dominance with Bernard Branagan and Shane Ward lofting over points, before Patrick McGreavey fired past Brendan Allen in the An Riocht net for the games first goal.

Two quick-fire Karl O’Hagan frees and another goal from Conor Grant put Clonduff in complete control, and further points from Shane Ward (2) and Bernard Branagan, either side of a Paddy Cole free kick meant Clonduff lead 2-08 to 0-02 at the break.

With the wind on their backs, An Riocht expected to claw back the deficit in the second but things didn’t go quite as planned. Patrick McGreavey pointed well before An Riocht Niall McGovern broke free and finished well past Clonduffl Keeper’ Darragh Sherry. After that An Riocht couldn’t keep possession and the home team took full advantage with points from Conor Grant, Karl O’Hagan, Barry O’Hagan and a well taken goal from Shane Ward. When the ball broke loose in the Clonduff box, Ryan White reacted quickest, turning his man before unleashing a thunderbolt to the top corner of the net, and soon after Diarmuid Flanagan popped one over the bar  as the visitors gathered momentum. Shane Ward added another point before Niall McGovern grabbed his second goal of the game, finishing smartly from a tight angle. Paddy Cordell and Karl O’Hagan traded points before Paddy Cole tapped over a free to bring the game to close. Final Score Clonduff 4-11 An Riocht 3-5
