Reserve footballers lost a high scoring affair, 2-14 to 3-16, to visiting Clonduff

The Reserve footballers lost a high scoring affair, 2-14 to 3-16, to visiting Clonduff. Played in brilliant sunshine both teams served up an open match full of attacking prowess non more ably illustrated than by Aidan McVeigh who operated in a poachers role at the edge of the square while the pace of Ryan White time and again unhinged the yellows defence, Anthony Rogers too was a thorn in the visitors side picking up some great positions to link the An Riocht play back to front.

Conor Sloan was extremely influential when moved to centre field as was Shane Sloan at centre back with good support from Sean McArdle and Joseph McCartan. Trailing for much of the match An Riocht drew level on forty five minutes before going in front only to be hauled back on two occasions before succumbing to a late Clonduff scoring blitz. Brendan Allen was another who did well with three point blank saves to keep his side in the match.

Team: B Allen, R Clarke, S Sloan, S McVeigh, S McArdle 0-2, A O’Hanlon, J McCartan, P Allen 0-1, P Gartland, A Rogers 0-1, S Knox, R White 1-3, A McVeigh 1-6, C Sloan 0-1, A White.
