Reserve Footballers: Lost to Rostrevor while they had a walk over Saval

The Reserve Footballers had two fixtures at the weekend with mixed fortunes resulting. On Friday in Rostrevor An Riocht lost the match but played some fine football. Reds went 2-6 to nil ahead by the fifteenth minute. An Riocht lost possession much too easily and the quality of the home side punished us on every occasion.

 

However after Darren White had pointed our first score, previously lacking confidence surged through the team and we won the second quarter 1-6 to 1-4. Ryan Clarke put Darren through again but his rising shot cleared the bar before Conor Cole placed Aidan McVeigh for a goal and Aidan added three more from frees and from play with Niall McGovern chipping in with another to leave it 1-6 to 2-11 at half time. Rostrevor strengthened further at the break and we failed to add to our tally on the restart.

 

The defence came into their own in the second half with Stephen Doran excellent in goals and Michael Clarke and Stephen McVeigh in particular playing well; subs Anthony Rogers and Egidijus Galdikas also enjoyed some deft touches during this period.

 

Then on Sunday An Riocht gained their first points with a walk over Saval.
