Reserve Football An Riocht v Warrenpoint

An Riocht Reserves beat Warrenpoint at Dunavil by 1-17 to 3-6 on Sunday morning. The home side got off to a great start when Neil Doran pointed a free and then Thomas Sloan was fouled in the square and Paddy Gartland despatched the penalty kick to the visitors net. Though the ‘Point replied with a good point from play this proved to be their only score in the first half and by the break An Riocht led 1-8 to 0-1. Centre fielder Brian Sloan advanced for two powerful points, Paddy Gartland landed a fifty and a long range free and inside forward Aidan McVeigh snapped onto early ball to add two more.

The ‘Point struck for their first goal in the fortieth minute but An Riocht hit back with a brace from Stephen McVeigh and a score from attacking wing back Sean McArdle and going into the final ten minutes led 1-15 to 1-4 before two late Warrenpoint goals put a gloss on the final score.

In defence Michael Clarke was sound at full back, John O’Rourke had a very good first half, Sean McArdle a good second half, and Aidan O’Hanlon was impressive for the hour.

Brian Sloan was the dominant figure of the four centre fielders, while Damian Sherry played tirelessly in attack and Neil Doran and Paddy Gartland sprayed passes opening up the visitors defence time and again.
Team: Brendan Allen, Stephen Corr, Michael Clarke, Joe McCartan, John O’Rourke, Aidan O’Hanlon, Sean McArdle 0-1, Brian Sloan 0-2, Rory Cunningham 0-2, Damian Sherry, Stephen McVeigh 0-2, Neil Doran 0-3, Aidan McVeigh 0-3, Paddy Gartland 1-4, Thomas Sloan.
