Reserve Football Rostrevor v An Riocht

In the Premier Reserve Championship An Riocht lost in Rostrevor on Saturday evening, the game decided by a sixtieth minute own goal as a despairing defender attempting to flick the ball off the line actually deflected it into his own goal which left it 1-12 to 0-12 at the final whistle.

The game turned on a thirty fifth minute sending off when a player who had just been punched and head butted took his own retribution after the referee failed to apply the rules and was lined.

That said too many An Riocht players did not play to their potential though it was good to see minors, Deaglan Morgan, Michael O’Rourke and Kory Colgan coming on to make decent contributions in the second half.

In the first half loose passes from defence led directly to four Rostrevor points and Brendan Allen made a good save to deny Reds a goal.

At half time it was seven points apiece.

Rostrevor went two up on the restart and then were handed that numerical advantage but An Riocht playing catch up responded well to level on three occasions despite some poor wides before that late unfortunate goal settled the result.

Good luck to Rostrevor in the next round.
