Reserve Football An Riocht v Kilcoo

The Reserve Footballers played Kilcoo at Dunavil and after a topsy turvy match won by 0-17 to 1-7. Playing long ball into a two man full forward line An Riocht went three nil up after five minutes but then changed tact and laboured possession in the middle third allowing Kilcoo to get in about them and turn the ball over, scoring 1-3 in the process. The final five minutes of the half saw An Riocht return to a more direct style and by the break the scores were tied at 0-6 to 1-3.

The teams were level at 0-8 apiece eight minutes into the restart when An Riocht upped the tempo and hit nine points in a row in a sixteen minute spell to put the result beyond the visitors. Kilcoo finished strongly and forced two exceptional saves from Stephen Doran in the closing moments.

It was encouraging to see five minors play significant roles in the victory; others to impress were Declan Clarke, John O’Rourke and Aidan O’Hanlon in defence; Gerard Keenan at centre field; and Damian Sherry and Noel McArdle in attack.

Thanks to Kilcoo for changing the match from Friday to Thursday.
