Senior Football: Teconnaught v An Riocht & An Riocht v Carryduff

An Riocht travelled to Teconnaught for the first time in some thirty years last year and came away victors by 1-13 to 0-7 after a patchy display, goal a game man Darren White kept up his scoring record.

An Riocht had no difficulty in defeating a poor Carryduff team at Dunavil on Saturday, 2-13 to 0-14. The home side scored all but two points from play while the visitors were reliant on frees for the majority of theirs.

Carryduff started ok with wing backs Conor Cassidy and Conor McCullough advancing for points apiece before An Riocht prospered in the looseness of the play and went seven two in front adding a cracking fifteenth minute goal from Paddy Cole for an eight point advantage after an incisive, pacey build up.

Much of the home side’s dominance was built around the midfield brilliance of Darren Doyle who gave an exhibition of high fielding throughout the first half and by the break they led 1-11 to 0-6.

An Riocht dropped their intensity for the second period but in the fortieth minute grabbed their second goal when Darren White rescued a shot drifting wide and stepped inside his marker before shooting low to the net to put the result beyond any doubt. Neil Doran crashed a shot off the bar and over late on.

So with a fifth of the campaign over inside just eight days An Riocht have three wins from three outings but have big scoring league leaders Ballymartin up next at Pats Road which is sure to require a more sustained performance over the sixty minutes.
