An Riocht Senior Footballers - News 2014

Senior Football An Riocht v Bosco

An Riocht gave first starts to five players for the visit of Newry Bosco but still came away comfortable winners, 1-13 to 1-8. The Newry men were bolstered by an eighth minute Gavin Moan penalty goal but a superb first half performance from John Clarke in which he landed four points, two from play, kept the home side in contention with Darren White’s twenty fifth minute goal putting us 1-6 to 1-4 in front by the break.

Bosco drew level on the restart before Deaglan O’Reilly advanced from defence to restore An Riocht’s advantage and Paddy Cole sprung from the bench made an immediate impact with two points from his first two touches, one from top of the right and the second from top of the left. James Reilly added another before a second double from Cole put An Riocht six clear in a six minute burst and from there we did enough to take the points.

When An Riocht brought senior intensity to the proceedings Bosco, like our other opponents to date, could not cope with our pace and power but too often we seemed content to do just enough and dropped our level to that of our opponents.

An Riocht: Brendan Allen; Conor Doyle, Paul Allen, Michael Clarke; Conor McVeigh, Deaglan O’Reilly 0-1, Declan Clarke; Darren Doyle, James Cunningham; Paul Sherry, Declan Doyle 0-1, Damian Sherry; John Clarke 0-4, James Reilly 0-2, Darren White 1-0. Subs: Ryan Spiers, Paddy Cole 0-5, Rory Cunningham, Paul Murney.
