at Pettit Park on Sunday morning. It would be unfair to pick out individuals for credit as this was a fantastic team performance by all the players involved. The defence stayed strong and worked hard for the whole game, only conceding ten scores. The midfield trio turned over plenty of ball and dominated centre field setting up our forward line who took some brilliant scores.

The U12 Footballers match in Clann Na Banna was postponed as Bann had not enough players due to Gaeltacht and holidays. The remaining league matches are away to Rostrevor on Sunday 31st July and away to Shamrocks on Wednesday 3rd August.

U12 Football Tournament

The Brian O'Hare Cup & Shield U12 Football 9-a-side tournament with 28 teams from 8 different counties took place at Dunavil on Saturday with Kilmacud Crokes winning the Cup beating Fingallians in an exciting all Dublin final and Saul taking the Shield after a close match with Longstone. Thanks to all the helpers who made the day a success and to the participating teams for playing all 84 games over a five hour period in the right spirit. One last big effort is required from everyone this Saturday for the Adrian McAlinden Cup & Shield which brings our series of underage football blitzes to a close.

with Coralstown-Kinegan (Westmeath) deposing holders Burren in the Cup Final and Shane O’Neills holding onto the Shield with victory over St Peters Lurgan in an all Armagh Final. An Riocht reached the Shield Quarter Final playing matches with Burren, St Peters Lurgan, Coralstown-Kinegad, St Brigids and Ballinderry.


Thanks to all those who helped make the day a good success and it will all have to be done again in a fortnight when we host the Jim Mulholland Cup, Shield and Plate tournament with 45 teams from 10 counties playing 132 games on 9 pitches in a 5 hour period; so clear the decks, it will take everyone playing their part to ensure another successful event.

At the U11 Football match at Dunavil this week v Warrenpoint, An Riocht had 24 players and again everyone got game time.  While the result may have gone against our team it is encouraging to see so many players available and so many coaches there to help them.

After the U11 match, the U8 squad played Rostrevor in a friendly or to be exact three friendlies because both teams had so many players available. Again a good sign for the future and enough coaches available to take the teams.

An Riocht and Clan Na Derg played out a high scoring thriller at Dunavil on Sunday morning in the opening fixture of the South Down U12 League. An Riocht defended well especially Curtis Flanagan in goals and Reece Flanagan and Ryan Mackey in defence while some great blocking by Christopher Flanagan and John Joe Eakins limited the visitors’ chances for goals.

 

Cormac Clarke and Caomhan Campbell had their moments around the middle of the park while upfront Conor Kelly and Joel Cunningham tried hard throughout the match with Eoin Sloan and Aidan Gribben picking off some nice scores.

 

A good start to the season; all the players have skill in abundance and with the right attitude at practice these boys can progress.

An Riocht had 2 teams in the Juvenile Football Festival in Kilmacud, Dublin on Sunday. Thanks to the mentors and parents who made it possible by giving up their Sunday to travel.

The U12 Football match at home v Clan Na Derg was an entertaining affair which the visitors won 6-13 to 4-5. Team: Curtis Flanagan, Lorcan Donnan, Ben Matthews, Michael Greenan, Ryan Cunningham, Eoin Killen, Jerry Lee McVeigh, Reece Flanagan, Reece Curran, Ryan Quinn, Matthew McCartan, Luke Quinn.

U12 Footballers had there first match action of 2013

The U12 Footballers had there first match action of 2013 as they participated in the South Down Blitz on Sunday Morning in Mayobridge.

 

They enjoyed tough matches against Clonduff, Mayobridge and Clane from County Kildare. The boys played some very good football and were disciplined throughout the day, and although failing to win any of their three games, they played with a lot of heart that will stand to them for the season ahead.

 

Next up is another blitz in Atticall on Sunday Morning, leaving Dunavil 9.30am

In the Brian O’Hare Cup 9-a-side U12 Football at Dunavil An Riocht reached the Cup semi-final losing to eventual winners Burren who defeated O’Donovan Rossa Magherafelt in the Final; in the Shield Final Shane O’Neills beat Rossa ‘A’. Thanks to all the teams for a hassle free tournament and to all the club helpers who ensured the whole day ran off smoothly.

Year 9 Schools Football tournament

The Year 9 Schools Football tournament took place at Dunavil on Friday with St Columbans, St Josephs and St Patricks participating.

The U12 Football match away v Rostrevor finished in a win for An Riocht.

Mayobridge win P7 Indoor Gaelic Tournament

At the P7 Indoor Gaelic tournament eight teams took part with Mayobridge beating Clonduff 2-3 to 1-2 in the Cup final and Mayobridge ‘A’ beating An Riocht ‘A’ 3-1 to 2-1 in the Shield final. Thanks to all who helped or took part.

The Brian O'Hare Cup & Shield U12 Football 9-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 16th May; Kilmacud Crokes, Cup holders, Saul, Shield holders.


Eighteen teams from seven Counties have entered and provisional groups are:
Group 1: An Riocht, St Michaels. Ratoath, Shane O’Neills, Moy Tir Na nOg.
Group 2: Baileghlas, Burren, Walterstown, Killeavy, Aughlisnafin.
Group 3: Longstone, Burren ‘A’, Magherafelt, Ballinteer St Johns.
Group 4: Saul, Clann Na Banna, Davitts, Magherafelt ‘A’.

 

The first games throw in at 10.30am, the knock out stages begin at 1.30pm with the Shield and Cup Finals approx 3pm. There will be up to 8 pitches in use; it is important to get off to a prompt start for the whole tournament to run to schedule; mentors & players must respect the decisions of the match and tournament officials or risk disqualification; for further information This email address is being protected from spambots.  An Riocht U12 Footballers have been participating in a Healthy Eating project with Meabh Cunningham which takes place after practice on Tuesdays, last week ASDA Community Champion Joanne McDowell assisted with portions of fruit and water bottles.

The U12 Footballers play in the Saint Johns tournament on Saturday 29 September, cars leave Dunavil 9am.

P5/P6 Footballers began outdoor training

The P5/P6 Footballers began outdoor training under the Dunavil lights on Friday past and really enjoyed the experience.

 

They are beginning a project this week which if completed successfully leads to some super gear for each player. It’s not too late to get involved, just be at Dunavil for 6.30pm on Friday well wrapped up for the weather and sign up with one of the coaches – Colin, Jerry, June, Leo, Martin or Paul.

The U10 footballers were in Belfast on Sunday at the St Brigids tournament at Belfast Harlequins rugby grounds.

We played five matches winning four and finishing runners up to Clann Eireann, other teams played included St Brigids, Carryduff, Bredagh and Lamh Dearg.

In the U12 Football League Mitchels visited Dunavil on Sunday and found the home side on top of their game. Eoin Sloan made some great saves between the posts, while Ethan Wright made two goal saving blocks; at centre field Philip Curran and Ronan Campbell dominated while up front Jack Rodgers and Matthew Carvill impressed.

In the Brian O’Hare Cup An Riocht exited to Maghera MacFinns from Cavan at the quarter final stage after earlier matches with Saint Johns Down, Con Magees Glenravel, Saint Josephs Dromiskin, and Bellaghy of Derry.

It was a great experience for the young boys to play games with such varied opponents.
