On Saturday past An Riocht U14 & U16 footballers took part in Ballymartin tournaments in Kilkeel, amazingly for some of our boys this was the first time they had played on the pitch. Both teams did very well each winning its competition, the 16s beating Ballymartin in their final and the 14s beating Longstone. Jack Rafferty (U14) and John Paul Farrell (U16) took the players of the tournaments awards.

An Riocht U14 footballers bowed out of the championship on Monday past. An Riocht had just the bare fifteen and included five U12 players in the starting line up. The boys did tremendously well to be ahead by two points at the break and on level terms, 3-8 to 3-8, with seven minutes remaining but the bigger Harps boys overran An Riocht in the closing moments running in 1-4 without reply for a flattering final score line. The U14 Footballers had a commanding win over a lacklustre Tullylish side on Monday evening. The first of the annual An Riocht (Down) tournaments take place this Saturday 19 May, it is the 25th Anniversary Paul Farrell Memorial Cup U14 Seven-A-Side Football and there has been a good entry.
The draw was made on Sunday 13 May and was as follows:

Burren A, Liatroim, Shamrocks, Tir Na nOg Portadown, St Josephs Dromiskin, St Johns.
The U14 footballers lost by two points in Warrenpoint by 4-14 to 6-6. We had just the fifteen players and five of them were U12 but the whole side played with great heart and only lost to a last minute goal. Jack Rafferty at full forward scored 6-5 with Conor Clarke adding our other point from centre field.

The U14 Footballers were away to Banbridge on Monday evening, an emerged victorious by a big score, the lads played well for the entire game, taking simple scores and all working hard for each other.
The U14 Footballers took on Glenn on Thursday on a bitterly cold and rainy night, but emerged victorious in a high scoring encounter. An Riocht had the better of the first half but would have found them self behind if not for the effort of goalkeeper Thomas Sloan, who made 4 top drawer save in the opening stages of the game. Points from Liam Rodgers and Paddy McComiskey and goals from Jack Rafferty & Corey McCormack gave An Riocht a 2-02 to 0-04 halftime lead.
An Riocht turned on the style in the second half with goals from Jack Rafferty (3), Ronan Campbell, Corey McCormack, Liam Rodgers, and points from Caomhan Campbell, Marc Rooney, Jack Rafferty (2) and Dane Matthews, saw An Riocht run out easy winners. Final Score – An Riocht 8-08 Glenn 2-7

An Riocht U14 footballers travelled to Derrylecka to play Mitchels on Thursday minus several players at U12 hurling but came away with their unbeaten record intact. Team Thomas Sloan, Michael Harper, Shane Cunningham, Eoin Sloan, Liam Rodgers, Marc Rooney, Conor Clarke, Conor Small, Philip Curran, Jack Rafferty, Dane Mathews, Patrick McComiskey, Caomhan Campbell. There were no subs.
The lad also drew with Glenn on Monday evening.
Over 500 U14 Gaelic football players and 24 teams from all over County Down descend on Newry for the 2012 Down GAA Football Feile on Easter Monday. The competition organised by Down GAA Bord na Og saw over 60 games take place at three venues throughout Newry - St Colman’s College, Abbey CBS and Pairc Esler.
The competition was split into three sections with the group stages of Section A taking place in St Colman‘s College, Section B in the Abbey and Section C at Pairc Esler. The semi-finals and finals of all three sections took place in Pairc Esler. An Riocht were involved in Section B at the Abbey CBS. In total six teams took part in Section B: Liatroim, Warrenpoint, Clann Na Banna, Glenn, Kilcoo and ourselves. In the group stages An Riocht won all their games and toped the group to set up a semi final meeting with Liatroim in Pair Esler.
In the semi final we beat Liatroim 3-05 to 0-02 to set up a final show down with Warrenpoint. In the final An Riocht won by two points 3-02 to 2-03 in a game which could have gone either way right to the final whistle.
Burren won Section A defeating Carryduff in the final while in Section C Drumaness beat Longstone

Burren won the Twenty Fifth Anniversary Paul Farrell Cup at An Riocht on Saturday beating the hosts and defending champions An Riocht in a thrilling final by one point.
Newry Shamrocks won the Shield competition beating Glenn in the final. Afterwards Liam Farrell presented trophies to all four finalists.
Thanks to the competing teams, referees and everyone else who helped make the occasion such a success.
