An Riocht U14 Footballers - Past News 2013
The U14 Footballers lost in the Championship semi-final to Bosco. An Riocht looked likely to cause a shock scoring 1-4 early on but the bigger Newry boys wore us down and were clear winners by the finish. The boys and mentors are going karting on 13th September and have a tournament in Atticall on Saturday 20th September to finish off the season.
The U14 Footballers won their first match of the season beating Glenn by 3-25 to 3-14 at Dunavil, a great result for the efforts of the players and mentors all year.
Team: Curtis Flanagan, R Mackey, R Flanagan, JJ Eakins, E Sloan, P Curran, R Campbell, Chris Flanagan, J Rodgers, A Gribben, C Morris, M Carvill, C Campbell, D Nugent, R Colgan, WJ Harper.
The U14 Footballers brought their final league match forward to facilitate Glenn and gave a good account of themselves. After that 23 goal thriller in Dunavil, this time the teams managed a mere 16 goals between them! Glenn claiming nine and An Riocht seven. There was steady progress from this squad over their ten game league campaign and with practice continuing each Monday evening, it’s hoped they can get a win in the upcoming Championship.
Team: Curtis Flanagan, John Joe Eakins, Philip Curran, Dylan Nugent, Ryan Mackey, Eoin Sloan, Ronan Campbell, Christopher Flanagan, Reece Flanagan, Conan Morris, Caomhan Campbell, Mathew Carvill, Ross Colgan, Aidan Gribben.
An Riocht’s small but keen bunch of U14 footballers, with only 2 players overage next season, played a great passing game against Baileghlas on Monday but lost outon a 5-11 to 5-18 score line unable to cope with a couple of absentees.
The free taking of Caomhan Campbell and tight defensive play of Philip Curran and John Joe Eakins allied to five goals from the Flanagans – Christopher and Curtis with two apiece and Reece with the fifth – saw the boys give it their all but fall just short.
Thanks to everyone who helped out on Saturday and to the participating teams who entered into the spirit of the day. The Cup winners were Bryansford with BurrenRunners-up. The Shield Winners were Liatroim with An Riocht Runners up. Well done to our boys. Team: M Carvill, R Campbell, P Curran, C Flanagan, E Sloan, J Rodgers, JJ Eakins, D Nugent, J Rogers, C Flanagan, R Mackey, R Flanagan, C Clarke, M Greenan.

An Riocht and Glenn played out an amazing 23 goal U14 football match at Dunavil which the visitors won by 4 points on a 13-14 to 10-19 score line. An Riocht got off to a slow start but made a spirited second half rally and almost came away with a deserved share of the spoils.
