U16: Rostrevor 2-7 An Riocht 2-6

Rostrevor travelled to Dunavil to take on An Riocht in the U16 Football League and came away with the narrowest of wins 2-7 to 2-6. To be fair Reds were better than the one point margin with the home side slow to find any rhythm with poor passing dominating our play. It was a horrible evening with driving wind and rain and Rostrevor played with it on their backs. They were three nil up when Darragh Campbell converted a close in free for An Riocht’s only score of the first half but just before the break the visitors got through for a goal which they had threatened and led 1-7 to 0-1 at half time.

An Riocht dominated second half possession but sloppy play prevented this showing on the scoreboard and against the run of play Reds nicked a forty third minute goal, their only score of the half. Now when it was too late An Riocht injected some urgency and directness into the game and an unanswered 2-3 brought the deficit to the minimum before time ran out.
