An Riocht U8 and U10 Footballers - Past News 2014
There was a huge turnout at the An Riocht Juvenile (P1 to U12) Awards which took place on Sunday. Special Guests were Down Camogie captain Niamh Mallon and Down Football goalie Brendan McVeigh along with Claire Connor & Stephen McDowell An Riocht Camogie and Football Minor captains.
An Riocht Saturday morning ‘Mol An Oige’ P1 to P4 coaching project has been recognised by SportNI in the ‘Coaching Project of the Year’ category and An Riocht Football Coaching Officer Seamus Curran has been recognised in the ‘Children’s Coach of the Year’ category. They are pictured with their certificates.
Parents & family members have a very important role to play and we would encourage them to participate in club activities while their children are playing our games; this will encourage the children to keep coming back. Volunteering in the club does not stop with coaching, there are several other areas that may be of interest and training is always available.
There is a Foundation Level Football coaching course taking place at Dunavil on Friday 21st& Saturday 22ndNovember, an ideal first step for parents or family members into coaching. Also the club Annual General Meeting is coming up on Friday 14th November if they prefer to volunteer in another area of club activity.

At the P3/P4 Football Tournament at Rostrevor, An Riocht won the Shield after matches with Longstone, Atticall, Rostrevor Ogs, Annaclone and Rostrevor Gaels.

The P5 & P6 Footballers were away at a tournament in Celbridge, County Kildare. In their group the boys beat Ballymum Kickams from Dublin and Saint Lomans from Westmeath and drew with hosts Celbridge which meant we finished second on score different. In the knock out stage we faced another big strong Dublin side in Kilmacud Crokes who beat us by four points.
It was a great day and thanks to Celbridge for the invite. Squad: James Donnelly, Michael Greenan, Ben Matthews, WJ Harper, Lorcan Donnan, Ryan Quinn, Reece Curran, Darragh Mc Alinden, Eoin Killen, Ryan Cunningham, Zack Curran, Matthew Mc Cartan, Shane Kelly,Tyler Shepcar and Bailey Morris.
Practice continues on Fridays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm in the hall, new boys welcome.
The coaches and footballers from the P1 to P4 Football group were on their travels all during August with outreach coaching on Saturdays at Kitty’s Road, Newry Street and the Scrogg Road and it went down well with several new faces turning out at each venue.
The 8 week autumn programme of football coaching and healthy eating gets underway from Saturday 6th September with P1 and P2 at 11am and P3 and P4 at 12pm each week. There will also be a free trip for those attending regularly.
Why not come along and give it a go? It’s open to everyone from P1 to P4.
On Saturday 6th September the P3/P4 boys play a tournament in Rostrevor and on 13th September they go to Moy, so won’t be back in the hall until 20th September.
There will be no Saturday Morning Football for P1 to P4 during July. Saturday morning football will resume on Saturday 2nd August; P1 & P2 @ 11am & P3 & P4 @ 12pm, bring indoor and outdoor footwear.
At the Fingallians juvenile tournament in Dublin, An Riocht enjoyed matches with Fingal Ravens, Fingal Whites, Cooley Kickams, Eire Og, and O’Dwyers before emerging winners of the ‘B’ competition.

At the U8 Football Tournament at Burren every player got on in every game as the team progressed to the quarter finals with matches with Carryduff, Clonduff, Burren and Warrenpoint. It was encouraging for the children and the coaches to see so many parents in attendance, well done.
Fingallians have just released details of their U10 football tournament on 9th August; An Riocht will play in a group with Fingallians (Dublin), Cooley Kickhams (Louth) and Eire Og (Carlow).
