U18 Football Clann Na Gael v An Riocht

At the U18 Football Clann Na Gael v An Riocht played in Newry, An Riocht drew 3-10 to 2-13. This was a poor performance and only U16 players John Joe Eakins, Christopher Flanagan and Philip Curran could be happy with their game. It will take the ‘Minor’ players to step up if we are to have any chance in the South Down Championship. An Riocht led seven nil after ten minutes but trailed eleven nine by half time. A good third quarter had us lead sixteen eleven before Clanns levelled it again and despite twice going ahead in the closing minutes we were unable to hold out for the win.

Minor Footballers beat Clan Na Gael

The Minor Footballers beat Clan Na Gael (Atticall/Mitchels select) in Atticall on Tuesday by ten points to five in wet conditions and with only twelve players for the last twenty minutes.  An Riocht were not at their best but played with discipline (black card aside) and great spirit. Showing five changes from last week’s starting twelve, An Riocht opened the scoring with a Ronan Campbell free but went three one behind within the first ten minutes. A Paddy McComiskey point rallied An Riocht and Ronan Campbell added three frees as An Riocht hit the front again with Conor Clarke landing a long range point just before the break for a 0-6 to 0-3 interval lead.  Two Ronan Campbell frees on the restart made An Riocht comfortable until that black card handed the initiative to Clan Na Gael but An Riocht staged a heroic resistance limiting the home side to just two points while breaking out to equal that tally at the other end and register a deserved win.
