Reserve Footballers win the Premier Reserve League

The Reserve Footballers beat Tullylish at Dunavil 4-17 to 4-7 to win the Premier Reserve League. A third minute Michael O’Rourke goal after good play from Kory Colgan and Aidan O’Hanlon helped An Riocht open a gap which grew following a series of well taken points though a game Tullylish side refused to give in and remained in contention at half time on a 1-12 to 1-3 score line.

When Kory Colgan grabbed possession on the restart and soloed through the centre before wrapping the ball around the stanchion it gave An Riocht breathing space though Tullylish responded with a second goal before Aidan O’Hanlon added a well taken An Riocht third and Aidan Sloan tapped in a late fourth. Tullylish played to the finish forcing a good double save from Brendan Allen before scrambling in a third goal and with the last kick converting a penalty for their fourth. Well done to the players and mentors on winning promotion and good luck in the upcoming championship.

Longstone failed to field in the Reserve Football League

Longstone failed to field in the Reserve Football League on Sunday bringing that competition to a close. An Riocht won the league with 11 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses but five of those wins came from walk overs so the boys only played nine matches, hardly enough for the season; hopefully we can get a run in the Championship to provide more games.

Reserve Footballers were in Downpatrick on Sunday and lost by two points 0-9 to 1-4

The Reserve Footballers were in Downpatrick on Sunday and lost by two points 0-9 to 1-4 in horrible wind and rain to a strong home fifteen. Downpatrick began better and had plenty of early chances but the An Riocht defence put in a heavy shift to limit them to just three points before Deaglan Morgan opened our account in the twentieth minute and signalled a purple patch with Brian Sloan forcing in the only goal of the game under tremendous pressure and Michael O’Rourke and Deaglan Morgan adding points apiece.

The home side had the breeze on the restart and soon pulled a point back before in a classic counter attacking move Lee Campbell had a ground shot whizz off the greasy surface with Michael O’Rourke sliding in at the back post just failing to deflect the ball to the open net.

Though Brian Sloan shot a good fortieth minute point, thereafter it was a rear guard action for An Riocht as Hoops piled on the pressure and again our defence did brilliantly, Joe McCartan pulling off a great block, but with the last twenty minutes played out in the An Riocht half as the An Riocht players faded dramatically , Downpatrick eventually found their range and were level by the fifty-fifth minute with wing back Conor Doherty advancing to point twice and veteran Kevin Gracey landed the winning scores as the game moved into added time.

An Riocht now need a point from the visit of Tullylish to Dunavil on Sunday to wrap up the league title
