In Senior Football An Riocht played at Kilmacud All Ireland Sevens in Dublin beating hosts Kilmacud 5-7 to 0-5 and Caherlistrane (Galway) 3-7 to 2-8 before losing the group decider to St Galls 2-3 to 0-12.

Football can be exhilarating to watch when it’s open fare but unfortunately in the modern game we usually only get honest attacking endeavour when there is little at stake and negative mindsets are left on the sidelines and so it proved at Pairc Liam Ui Ir on Saturday evening. With the big prize, the league title, gone from both teams grasp, each went out to outscore the other and in so doing provided the good sized attendance with an hour’s wonderful football during which the lead continually changed hands and the result was in doubt until the final few minutes.

In Senior Football An Riocht beat Annaclone to remain in the running for the title playoffs. Christopher Killen with nine points, seven from frees, and the Cole bothers, Conor and Patrick, with a point apiece completed the scoring for a somewhat depleted but tremendously spirited An Riocht side which had good performances from Paul Allen and Deaglan O’Reilly at the back; Paul Murney who battled manfully at centre field; while Killen took the plaudits upfront.

The full 3rd Round draw is as follows:
Longstone v An Riocht
Rostrevor v Clonduff
Saval v Ballyholland
Downpatrick v Castlewellan.

Games due to take place over the weekend of 7, 8 & 9th September with the winners then going on to play the winners of the Round 2 proper games in the Quarter-Finals on the weekend of 28, 29 & 30th September (Burren, Mayobride, Kilcoo and Bryansford)

The senior footballers lost to Warrenpoint on Friday night. We led early on four points to one but were behind after twenty minutes and chasing the result and never really looked like getting there.
