The U14 Footballers beat Burren ‘B’ 10-11 to 0-8 in Burren as at long last decent performances were rewarded with our boys also coming out the right side of the scoreboard; their off the shoulder support play and great effort from everyone, particularly Matthew McCartan, Shane Quinn and Ryan Cunningham, enabled our best result to date.
In the U16 Camogie An Riocht’s good league form continued with a 14-14 to 0-1 home win over Castlewellan and we remain in contention, Liatroim being the only team to beat us.
Away in Tullylish our U18 Footballers had ten points to spare on a 3-25 to 4-12 score line.
In the Senior Football Ballyholland v An Riocht, we won by two points, 3-11 to 1-15, after a tough physical encounter. An early goal from Paddy Gartland when he came in on the end of a good move to shoot low under the keeper helped us to a 1-4 to 0-2 first quarter lead and when the home side hit back, Deaglan Morgan popped up with a spectacular second goal to the top corner from twenty metres and at the break we led 2-6 to 1-7. Ballyholland scored six of the first eight points of the second half but by the fifty sixth minute the teams were tied sixteen all, then seventeen all minutes later. Ballyholland went ahead with two minutes on the clock and we had an equaliser chalked off before in added time Noel McArdle coolly slotted home a penalty after a foul on Adam White. The home side had two chances in the three remaining minutes but our defence held firm for a great win. What a turn-around from the lacklustre display in Clonduff in our last match; tonight, every player stood up and got their reward.
Team:Stephen Doran, Liam Rodgers, Conor Doyle, Conor McVeigh, James Cunningham 0-1, Paul Allen, Conor Clarke 0-1, Ronan McAlinden 0-3 (f, 2x45), James Colgan, Deaglan Morgan 1-2, Kory Colgan, Noel McArdle 1-4 (2f, pen), Declan Doyle, Rory Cunningham, Paddy Gartland 1-0.
Subs:Conor Cole, Adam White, Conor Sloan, Brian Rodgers
The U12 Footballers lost at home to Shamrocks 2-10 to 3-12 on Wednesday but bounced back on Sunday in Burren with a 6-3 to 2-9 victory.
The U16 Footballers won at second placed Rostrevor by 1-17 to 2-7. The first ten minutes were scoreless with both sides passing up chances before Reds opened with a pointed free but once An Riocht found their range they shot over points at will before Eoin Sloan bagged our goal off a Caomhan Campbell pass. The home side had a good start to the second half and scored their first goal to keep it close before four points in succession moved An Riocht seven clear. Clearly happiest on the front foot An Riocht displayed a great range of passing and score taking and though Reds forced in a second goal late on, a trio of points from Eoin Sloan cancelled that score out and left us comfortable at the finish.
Team: Curtis Flanagan, John Joe Eakins, Michael Greenan, Jack Rodgers, Ryan Mackey, Dylan Nugent, Chistopher Flanagan 0-1, Caomhan Campbell 0-2, Ross Colgan, Aidan Gribben 0-1, Ethan Wright, Lorcan Donnan, Eoin Sloan 1-13 (7f, 45). Subs: Joel Cunningham, William Harper, Ben Matthews, Ryan Cunningham, Reece Flanagan.
In the Junior Camogie Championship An Riocht beat Atticall 6-12 to 2-0 in Clonduff and now play Kilcoo in the semi-final.
