FREE PROGRAMME FOR ANYONE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A PROVISIONAL LICENCE FINISH THE COURSE & GET FREE DRIVING LESSONS

Kingdom host a Safe Driving programme ‘No Need 4 Speed’ in September and October.The project aims to raise awareness of road traffic dangers among young people of driving age. This will be achieved by working with 12 young people, statutory agencies that deal with road traffic collisions, dealing with stereotypes of young drivers and risk taking behaviour and advice from a mechanic on vehicle maintenance and the provision of free driving lessons.

 

The project will run over seven sessions:

Session 1. Introduction. Ice Breakers. Contract. Responsibilities.

Session 2. Youth & Community. The pressures youth face. Stereotypes. Peer Pressure. Gender Awareness. Risk Taking Behaviour. The Causes of Reckless Driving.

Session 3. Road Traffic Accidents. PSNI Road Traffic Unit. Impact of Road Traffic Accidents. Car Crime. Road Safety Awareness. Awareness of Driving Laws. Speed Limits. Drink Driving. Illegal Driving. Underage Driving. Insurance, MOT and Tax. Restrictions. Consequences. Case Studies.

Session 4. Road Traffic Accidents.Input from Fire & Rescue Service. Input from Ambulance Service. Demonstrations. Cutting Open a Car. Emergency First-Aid.

Session 5. Car Safety and Maintenance Skills.

Session 6. Exploring Highway Code and Practice.

Session 7. Evaluation, Social Activity (Formula Karting).

Those who complete the programme in full will receive a certificate, and financial assistance with driving lessons. This is a ‘whole community’ project and Kingdom welcomes interest from young people who may not be regular attendees of Kingdom. Anyone interested should call out to the club and speak to Lee. This project is funded by ARCS.

Minister for Infrastructure to visit Dunavil

Chris Hazard MLA Minister for Infrastructure (formerly Department Social Development) will be at Dunavil approx. 3pm on Friday to among other things look at traffic calming measures on the Dunavil Road.
